Saint Expedite, though not an official saint of the Catholic church, has a fascinating character and backstory. He is the patron saint of procrastinators and is called upon for help in the eleventh hour. Care must be taken with him: his altar must be kept outside the home and he must be repaid promptly for his help, often with his favorite treat of pound cake. It is said that when he was on his way to convert, a crow tried to distract him by cawing "TOMORROW!" ("kras" in Latin), whereupon Expedite crushed him and went on to convert today ("hodie"). His name allegedly comes from his statue's mysterious appearance at a New Orleans convent in a box marked "EXPEDITE" or "RUSH." Several versions of this story exist.
