According to legend, the women of Atocha, Spain prayed to an image of the infant Jesus to help Catholics imprisoned by the Moors. The Moors did not allow anyone but family members under the age of 12 to deliver food to prisoners, and those without family found themselves starving to death. Soon, reports were spread of a child just under 12 dressed as a religious pilgrim entering the prison and distributing food at night. The Child of Atocha is revered across Hispanic cultures.
