Saint James the Moor Killer AKA Santiago Matamoros has a fascinating history. It is said that during the Moorish occupation of Spain Saint James (disciple of Jesus) himself came down to fight on the side of the Catholics. From there, the Portuguese took his legend to west central Africa, where they told the Kongo people that they had a powerful saint fighting on their side. Always excited to add another powerful spirit to their pantheon, the Kongo quickly made him one of their own. He is associated with Ogou, the warrior lwa of Haitian Vodou, and is said to have fought in the revolution.
